‘Imports needed’

FOLLOWING a 1-0 win over Erco-BRO Gau in the Men’s Open championships of the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup last week, Leylam FC takes a much-deserved rest but will be back on the pitch immediately in preparation for the biggest national club tournament in the county, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Smart National Club Championship.

“I don’t really know yet when the Smart Cup will be. Next week we will know when our training will start. We will be adding new players but as of now I don’t know yet because it all depends on the management. So far, my bosses are on vacation and we will have a meeting next week,” Leylam FC head coach Oliver Colina told Sun.Star Cebu.

Last year, Erco-BRO FC beat Leylam FC in the Aboitiz Football Cup finals and represented the Cebu Football Association (CFA) in the National Club Championship.

Erco-BRO was eliminated in the final group stage after only finishing third in Group B.

Loyola Meralco Sparks won the crown, beating Global FC, 2-0.

With the loss of African Madi Nji, Leylam FC is expected to reinforce the team new players.

“I don’t know yet how many players we will be adding. It depends on them (the Tascis) if they’ll approve of them or not. We have prospects from Cebu, Mindanao and Manila,” said Colina. “But I need their commitment that they’ll be here for training. I don’t want them to play right away in the tournament.”

Nji is leaving the club after signing a contract with Lebanese football club Al Ahed.

Leylam FC will most likely start their preparation two weeks from now, in which Colina hopes to have a 10 to 12 week training camp to prepare the team for their biggest task to date.
