Inasal Festival slated in May

THE City Government of Bacolod will celebrate the Manokan Country Inasal Festival in May, which is one of the activities in the city’s 80th anniversary celebration this year.

Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of City Council committee on tourism, said there was no specific date cited on City Ordinance No. 482, known as the "Manokan Country Inasal Festival in the City of Bacolod,” as to when the celebration will be held.

“The exact date of the celebration was not stated so this year, it will be celebrated in the month of May because it is summer and there is no problem in the supply of chicken,” the councilor said.

On Wednesday, Ang led the public hearing for the amendment of some provisions in the ordinance, like the coverage of the festival.

Ang said Section 2 of the ordinance stated that the festival shall have the exclusive coverage from the corner of Rizal-Ferrero Streets encompassing the whole Manokan Country area up to the corner of Burgos-Ferrero Streets only.

The Manokan Country has been existing since the time of then mayor Jose Montalvo and since its establishment, the place has become one of the major centers of the city's tourism areas where the display of the real Ilonggo taste is one of the proven manifestations of the Bacoleños’ true identity, the ordinance stated.

"We would like it to become one of the big festivals here in the future," Ang said

In 2009, the City Government attempted to break the world record in the longest barbeque grill at the north wing parking areas of SM City Bacolod.

This year, they will attempt again to break the Guinness World Record of longest barbeque grill which will be participated by various chicken vendors, Ang said.

She said the Inasal Festival will further boost the city’s economic growth and tourism.

The committee proposed a budget of P1 million for the festival. (MAP)
