Injured teen trekker rescued

AN INJURED teen trekker was rescued more than 24 hours after he was reported missing in Barangay Patag, Silay City, Negros Occidental Thursday.

Rescuers found Silaynon Darryl Delocario, 18, sitting near the falls at Kawa area in Kuyong around 4:35 p.m. Friday.

Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, who supervised the rescue operation, said Delocario was situated about 200 feet below the area where he possibly fell.

The teener sustained bruises and scratches but he is fine, Caelian said. He was brought to a hospital.

Caelian said they cannot explain yet how the victim survived the fall.

On the morning of March 30, Delocario along with nine others trekked to Tinagong Dagat in Mount Mandalagan. He got separated from the group around 11 a.m. on their way back to the Patag campsite.

He did not see that he was following another trail. His companions noticed his absence when they reached the camp site.

The area has been restricted from trekkers after 25 female mountaineers got stranded at the mountain's side in Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City last year.
