Inventors urge Duterte more support and aid

THE Davao Inventors Association (DIA) is urging the government under President Rodrigo Duterte to support the local inventors in their innovations that would help in nation building and address social problems.

DIA president Virgilio Sangutan, in a press conference Monday, said they were disappointed with the past administration due to the lack of support for promising local inventors, innovators and scientists who could be at par with their foreign counterparts if given sufficient aid.

Sangutan said that there were more than 900 registered technologies under the Department of Science and Technology that were accredited and certified but were not given the chance to further their studies and commercialize.

These inventors opted to seek the help of other countries instead, benefiting from the Filipino-made technology.

Thus, in the three-day exhibit at the City Council starting today until November 17, they will take this as a platform to showcase their innovations to the public and to earn the support of the government.

"We will bring our innovations closer to the new administration," Sangutan said.

He remained optimistic that the government will also give them opportunities to make their inventions be known not only here but also in the international level.

Sangutan underscored that investors play a critical role in addressing the current problems of the country such as air pollution, in which solutions for this will take centerstage during the exhibit.

In the city, while the problem has not yet worsened, local inventors will be among the exhibitors.

Sangutan said the exhibit aims to intensify their information, education and communication campaign, understanding air pollution sources and health effects while showcasing the technologies that will reduce and mitigate air pollution through inventions and innovations as part of this year's observance of the Clean-air month.

One of the local exhibitors is the Agricultural Livelihood Creators, a member of DIA, that made a technology wherein the smoke emitted by coal power plants would be extracted and converted into liquid form.

"The liquid, if mix with water, will enhance the maturity of the plants," he said.

"We only want the full support of the government because we are not only focusing on air problem but also agricultural. In all sector, DIA could really help," he said.

There are other 16 technologies, inventions, innovation that will also be showcased today.
