IPA Philippines launches contest on best ‘selfie’ photos

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- International Photography Awards (IPA) Philippines takes inspiration from the visual phenomenon called "selfie" as the takeoff point of the Selfie Photo Competition for 2017.

IPA Philippines aims to document the contemporary visual culture that is affecting the daily lives of Filipinos in the Philippines and elsewhere.

"Rather than interpreting its negative narcissistic aspect, we want to see how Filipino participants use a selfie as tool for expressing their ideas, and their idealism, as they reflect everyday events, whether personal, cultural, social or environmental," IPA Philippines said in a statement.

The contest is open to all Filipinos worldwide. Winners will get a chance to have their own solo show and free mentoring by a master photographer. The winning entry also passes to the 2017 IPA Philippines contest.

The IPA conducts an annual competition for professional, non-professional, and student photographers on a global scale, creating one of the most ambitious and comprehensive competitions in the photography world today.

IPA is a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation, a non-profit, charitable foundation whose mission is to honor master photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent and promote the appreciation of photography worldwide.

The annual programming of Lucie Foundation is funded largely though the International Photography Awards, including the signature event, The Lucie Awards.
