Isabela City fire victims get aid from Zamboanga

THE City Government of Zamboanga has provided relief assistance to fire victims in the island of Malamawi, Isabela City, Basilan province.

The relief goods, consisting of rice and other food items were turned over on Friday, August 5, by Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar to Isabela City Mayor Al-Qaid Akbar.

Akbar and Salazar, accompanied by other officials, sailed to Malamawi Island and jointly distributed the relief goods to the fire victims in the village of Diki.

A total of 346 families comprising of more than 2,000 individuals were displaced in a fire that hit the village on Sunday, July 30.

Some of the city councilors and city government officials accompanied Salazar who traveled aboard a Navy boat to Isabela City.

From Malamawi Island, Salazar also visited the Monastery of Saint Claire and the Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade headquarters in the village of Tabiawan, Isabela City.

Salazar, Regional Peace and Order Council chairperson for Western Mindanao, assured her full support for stronger and closer ties between the cities of Zamboanga and Isabela, aiming to improve cross-strait cooperation, especially in times of disaster, whether natural or human-induced.
