MANILA -- Tropical Storm "Isang" has slowed down as it moves away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday night.
Pagasa located Isang at 220 kilometers (km) West of Basco, Batanes as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Isang is moving northwest at 19 kilometers per hour (kph). It has maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Isang, the will enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Pagasa estimated that Isang will bring 5 - 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) amont of rainfall within the 300 km diameter of the tropical storm.
Meanwhile, public storm warning signals in Luzon are now lowered. Placed under storm signal number 1 (45-60 kph winds) are Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands Batanes Group of Islands, the Pagasa said, adding that residents living in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Weather forecasters expect Isang to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday evening. (Sunnex)
