MANILA (Updated) -- Tropical storm "Isang" intensified into a tropical storm Wednesday afternoon while moving away from the country, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 4 p.m. bulletin that the center of Tropical Storm “Isang” was estimated at 210 kilometers (km) northwest of Aparri, Cagayan.
Isang has maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Public storm signal number 1 remained hoisted in Ilocos Norte, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, and Batanes Group of Islands.
Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal number 1 were alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
The bulletin added that “Isang” will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas. (Sunnex)
