A JAPANESE businessman was found dead inside his house in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday, in what police believed was a case of suicide.
Junichi Ikeuchi, 54, of Tokyo, Japan bore a gunshot wound in his head.
Police found no signs that may indicate foul play and recovered a .45 pistol beside him. He owned Pride KTV Bar in Barangay Marigondon.
PO2 John Carlo Jocutan of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s Homicide Section said it was Jojie Crisostomo who discovered Ikeuchi’s body past 5:15 p.m.
Ikeuchi was last seen last Saturday after he held a meeting with his staff.
Because he failed to report for work and answer several calls, Jimmy Fernandez, the KTV bar’s general manager, asked his son Jojie to visit the Japanese in his house in Collinwoods Subdivision.
At the front yard, Jojie noticed the lights of the house that Ikeuchi had been renting for two months were still on.
“Daghan kuno kaayong langaw unya nanimahong patay (He also noticed lots of flies and the pungent odor in the area),” Jocutan said.
Spare key
Sensing that something had happened to Ikeuchi, Jojie sought the help of the subdivision’s security guard, who called the police.
Jocutan, the team leader of the responding police officers, said they were able to open the house after the owner gave them a spare key.
He said they found Ikeuchi lying on his bed.
Police found a slug near the door. Two empty cans of beer were also found beside Ikeuchi.
Police did not see signs of forced entry into Ikeuchi’s house and his belongings were also intact.
Jocutan said the windows with railings were not broken and the doors with double locks were not destroyed.
As to why Ikeuchi may have killed himself, police are still looking into it.
Jimmy, when interviewed by police, said his employer didn’t talk about any problem to them.
“Kusog lang daw ni siya moinom (He was reportedly a heavy drinker),” Jocutan said.
Early this month, Ikeuchi was reported to the police for allegedly refusing to pay his taxi fare. His neighbors also reportedly complained against him because he would get wild when drunk.
The Filipina girlfriend of Ikeuchi also did not say anything to the police as to why the Japanese ended his life.
Ikeuchi was supposed to leave for Manila next week for a business meeting.
However, police are looking for Ikeuchi’s bag, where his passport and cellular phones were placed.
Jocutan said they failed to recover the bag inside his house. Ikeuchi also reportedly withdrew money last Saturday.
Jocutan said the Japanese Embassy already called them to ask for a police report.
