JBC taps social media for questions to CJ nominees

MANILA (Updated 10:30 a.m.) -- Questions that may be asked to the 22 candidates vying for the Chief Justice position may come from the public this time, after the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) tapped social media to gather queries.

However, the JBC said the Facebook and Twitter accounts will be operational for the duration of the interviews, thus the public can post questions for the nominees from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 24 to July 27.

To participate, netizens should visit the Facebook account “Judicialandbarcouncil Supreme Court” while the JBC Twitter handle is “@SupremeCourtJBC.”

Guidelines for the public on the usage of both accounts will also be posted by the screening body online.

First to be grilled by the JBC on Tuesday morning are Presidential Commission on Good Government Chairman (PCGG) Andres Bautista, law professor Soledad Cagampang-de Castro and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, whose attendance is still unsure after she flew to Bicol last July 19 to attend to her cancer-stricken father.

To be interviewed in the afternoon are De La Salle University law Dean Jose Manuel Diokno, Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza and women’s rights advocate Katrina Legarda.

The interviews are open for live media coverage. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
