Kamusta ka iskolar ng bayan?

THE University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) Alumni Association Inc. together with the UPV Office of the Alumni Relations recently held the induction of officers and board of directors of the UPV Alumni Association Iloilo Chapter at the L’Fisher Hotel.

Dr. Gil Octaviano Jr., president of the UP Visayas Alumni Association Negros, welcomed the guests to the City of Smiles.

Prof. Benmar Panaguiton, director of UPV Office of the Alumni Relations, gave a message. Rosendo Caesar Arandela III, immediate past president, presented his yearend report.

Dr. Gay Defiesta, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, in behalf of Dr. Ricardo Barbaran, Chancellor of UP Visayas, administered the oath of the officers led by Dr. Gil Joseph Octaviano III.

Other officers include Alfredo Arungayan III, vice president; Janette Gay Panganiban, secretary; Fatima Peralta, treasurer; and Jennifer Mae Lusion, auditor.

Board of directors are Ray Alindong, Rosendo Caesar Arandela III, Amaryles Josephine Castro, John Guidon dela Cruz, Antoinio Jose Evidente, Christine Garin, Consuelo Geduspan, Seewyn Ibaretta, Johanna Jamero and Melanie Jane Tendencia.

Gil Joseph, the newly inducted president also celebrated his birthday. The crowd sang happy birthday and his family, wife Maricar and son Gio, brought a cake for him.

His response was to share his three goals for the year: to strengthen membership; to visit other UPV alumni association in other towns and cities and to raise funds.

The office of the alumni relations showed a slide presentation of the how UP Visayas look like now and handled fun games with prizes.

It was a nostalgic reunion among the alumni, families and friends. Everyone was encouraged to tap other alumni to find out how the “isko” and “iska” are and to join activities like the Alumni Homecoming on August 24 to 26 in Iloilo City.
