Kenyans eyed in Davao International Marathon

CHALLENGING routes awaits Davao Ultrarunners Club (DUC)-organized International Marathon that will kick off on March 11 in Davao City.

DUC president coach RoelAno, on Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said the first international marathon in the city will feature 42 kilometers (42K), 21K and 5K.

"Challenging kaayo amoang rota ani kay bisag sakyanan mag lisud, so mas exciting ni (This will be a very challenging route even for vehicles that will make it more exciting)," Ano said.

Ano said four foreigners including one Lithuanian runner and three Kenyans may compete in the race.

More than 500 runners from all over the world are expected.

In a separate interview, he said that the event was earlier set on March 18 but reset it a week earlier to give more time for participants who will also be seeing action in the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao on March 25 more time to recover.

He added, "Daghan mudula sa Ironman ang mudagan sa among event, sa 21K, kay mamahimo na syang tune-up nila sa dagan og endurance (A lot of Ironman participants will be running in our race as it will serve as a tune-up for them and a great opportunity to test their endurance)."

Top finishers will receive a full-sublimated finisher's shirt.

Registration is ongoing. The early bird registration fees are P1,300 (42K), P1,000 (21K) and P450 (5K) inclusive of race bib, timing chip, event singlet, finisher's shirt, finisher's medal and certificate but will last until February 10.

The regular fees are pegged at P1,450 (42K), P1,300 (21K) and P450 (5K) inclusive of freebies.

Registration satellites are at Podium Multisport in Davao City and Activo Fitness in Tagum City.
