ABOUT 70 participants have signed up for the third Mayor Moonyeen Triathlon Cup this Sunday at the Alegre Beach Resort and Spa in Sogod,Cebu.
The race features an individual and relay standard distances of 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run, while the sprint distance will be 750m swim, 20K bike and 5K run.
Most of those who confirmed are newbies and kids. Although the event does not have a supertrikids category this year, a mini-sprint distance for kids is added because of the request of kids joining the Alaska Ironkids on Aug. 3 in Lapu-Lapu City.
This was disclosed by Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap) executive director Oscar Rodriguez.
Rodriguez also confirmed that former Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines race director Guy Concepcion is joining.
He also talked about this Sunday's race routes.
“It will be about two meters above sea level in the morning of July 21, so it will be a beautiful swim route over the blue crystal clear waters of Alegre,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez also said there will be a major change in the bike route as the triathletes will be brought out to the smooth and newly paved highway of Sogod and Catmon towns where hundreds of cyclists and triathletes do their weekend long rides in preparation for the 70.3 Ironman this Aug. 4.
“The run will be along the national road passing by the tree-lined, shaded and manicured perimeter wall of the Lhuillier property in Borbon town,” Rodriguez said.
The registration is at Rudy Project Ayala and SM as well as at The Brick Tri Shop.
The race will be supervised by Trap national coach Rick Reyes, who will be arriving today.
