‘Kinatay’ bags awards in Gawad Urian

INDEPENDENT film “Kinatay” won the most number of trophies in Thursday night's 33rd Gawad Urian held at the Film Center of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

Handed by the Manunuri Ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics), the film took three recognitions that included Best Sound, Best Director, and Best Film.

The movie was directed by multi-awarded Brillante Mendoza.

Mendoza's other film "Lola" also took home the Best Production Design and Best Screenplay awards.

Veteran actor Lou Veloso bagged the Best Actor award for "Colorum" while Rustica Carpio and Anita Linda got the Best Actress Award for "Lola".

“Himpapawid” meanwhile received the Best Supporting trophies for Soliman Cruz (Actor's category) and Marissa Sue Prado (Actress' category).

Raymond Red bagged the Best Cinematography award for "Himpapawid".

Orlean Tan, Miko Araneta, and Ralph Crisostomo were given the Best Editing trophy for "Engkwentro" while Francis Leyva was the winner for the Best Music category for "The Arrival."

Veteran actress Armida Siguion Reyna was awarded with the Natatanging Gawad Urian trophy for her outstanding contribution in the movie industry.

The event, which was hosted by Kapuso stars Gelli de Belen and Butch Francisco.

It was well attended by big names in the showbiz circle such as Piolo Pascual, Eugene Domingo, Sam Milby, Iza Calzado, Coco Martin, Rachel Alejandor, among others. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
