Korean fugitive wanted for swindling to be deported

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) is scheduled to deport a Korean national wanted by authorities in Seoul for swindling.

Park Petero, 41, was arrested last September 26 at his home on Plaridel Street, Barangay Sto. Niño, Angeles City, Pampanga, by agents from the bureau's fugitive search unit, said BI chief Jaime Morente last Monday.

Morente said Park has been hiding in the country since October 12, 2010, to evade arrest and prosecution for his crime.

Park is a subject of an Interpol red notice issued following the court's release of a warrant of arrest against him for defrauding his fellow Korean of 60 million won.

Park borrowed from the victim on the pretext that he would invest the money in the cosmetics business.

He, however, failed to pay his loan despite repeated demands.

Park is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig, while awaiting his deportation.

"He will be deported for being an undesirable alien and for posing risk to public safety on account of his status as a fugitive from justice," said Morente. (SunStar Philippines)
