Labor office regularizes 2,000 workers in Davao region

MORE than 2,000 employees have been regularized in Davao Region under the Department Order (DO) 174 on contracting and subcontracting work, an official of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) said.

Dole Davao Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said during the 2017 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan Fairs Press Conference at the Pinnacle Hotel on Wednesday, April 26, their intensified campaign against unlawful contractualization in the region led to the regularization of some 2,326 workers as of April 2017.

He said more than 10,000 workers were affected by contractualization in Davao Region and 7,801 are subject for re-validation.

"Sa ngayon we have pending mandatory cases reaching around 4,000 and the 2,468 workers are subject for issuance of compliance, meaning these workers need to be regularized by their employers as soon as possible," he added.

Agravante said they will eliminate Endo-related cases by the end of this year referring to illegal contractual arrangements as there are also legitimate labor contracts like outsourced labor force and project based employments or those called “seasonal regulars.”

"The workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are compartmentalized into skilled and non-skilled employees. Minsan they have seasonal projects kaya naka kontrata lang ang trabaho sa uban trabahante," he said.

On May 1, a jobs fair will be held at the 4th floor of the Gaisano Mall organized by the labor department. More than 6,000 jobs are available.
