Landslide, tree damage house

A HOUSE in Sitio Pili, Barangay Malubog, Cebu City was damaged after a tree fell on the portion of the structure following one of the two landslides that happened in the area yesterday.

A gemilina tree was uprooted and fell on the house after the series of rains in the past days, said Councilor Dave Tumulak.

Tumulak, who presides over the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CCDRRMC), said no one was injured in the incident.

The house, which is made of light materials, is owned by Dominador Bonghanoy.

“The report was received at around 7:30 a.m. and luckily family members of Bonghanoy were no longer sleeping in the portion of the house where the tree fell,” Tumulak said.

As of yesterday, personnel from disaster office removed the tree that fell on Bonghanoy’s house.

Tumulak said City will extend housing materials as assistance to the owner of the house after part of their bedroom was damaged because of the incident.

Before the incident, another landslide also happened in the same sitio, only a few meters away from Bonghanoy’s house.

“No one was also hurt in the incident, and we immediately cordoned the area to prevent pedestrians from using it,” Tumulak said.

The area is used as road right of way for the residents of Barangay Malubog.

Since it is not along the road, Tumulak said the incident did not hamper the flow of traffic in the area.

Personnel from the disaster office and the barangay has also immediately deployed a back hoe in the area and cleared the rocks and soil that fell because of the landslide.

With the incident, Tumulak reminded all the barangays, particularly in the upland areas that are landslide-prone, to be cautious.
