Lapu-Lapu mayor cancels water sports activities today

LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Paz Radaza suspended Wednesday, February 13, the water sports activities in the city since strong winds were still experienced.

Radaza said the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) continued monitoring the weather condition although Tropical Depression “Basyang” already left Cebu.

Lapu-Lapu is one of the areas in Cebu that is known for parasailing, diving, among others. The shops’ usual customers are foreigners.

In a press conference Wednesday, Radaza said the city is trying to control the sea activities so incidents in the past will not be repeated.

“Suspend for today ang water sports activities,” said Radaza.

Once the City Government will get a report that someone defied the mayor’s warning, Radaza said the establishment will be subjected to cancellation of business permit.

As of 12 noon Wednesday, the City Government had not monitored activities being done in the sea.

In Mandaue City, CDRRM Officer Felix Suico Jr. said a house was damaged after a mango tree fell on it in Purok 4, Barangay Cubacub Tuesday.

Suico said no one was injured during the incident.

Both Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities suspended classes in preschool, elementary and high school Wednesday due to Tropical Depression Basyang. (FMG/SunStar Cebu)
