Lapu-Lapu mayor dismisses erring anti-crime group member

LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Paz Radaza dismissed the member of a local anti-crime group who went viral on Facebook for allegedly harassing a taxi driver last Sunday night.

“Wa tay lugar diri sa City Hall para sa mga ingon ana nga mga taw... Mao to kutob ra sya diha pagkaugma (We do not have a space in the City Hall for the persons who are rude... After that incident, I dismissed him the following day),” Radaza said in a press conference Wednesday, November 29.

Inoncencio Roa is a member of the City of Lapu-Lapu Allied Force or Claf, a group created by the Lapu-Lapu City Government to maintain peace and order in the city.

On November 25, Facebook user Chum Oclarit posted on her account a video of a man, who was later identified as Roa, slamming the window of a taxi cab and demanding the taxi driver to open it.

The video has already generated 1,683 shares as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Roa, he was just trying to talk to the taxi driver after he saw the taxi running fast on M. L. Quezon Highway. He said the said vehicle almost hit him and his sibling while they were on a motorcycle at 9:30 p.m. last Sunday.

“Ato ani serbisyo sa katawhan. Mahimo ra man nato maistorya ang mga taw (We are here to serve the public. We can approach nicely to the person if he/she committed a violation),” Radaza said.

The taxi driver, Jonjie Garciano, informed Radaza in a Facebook post that Roa immediately turned to M. L. Quezon Highway from the road of the City Hall so he signaled him when he passed the area. Garciano picked up a passenger from the airport before the incident.

Garciano described Roa and the backrider as “pulos hubog (both drunk).”

“Tanang detalye anang hitaboa akong itug-an nga walay sobra ug walay kulang kung mag atubang mi anang tawhana (I will say all the exact details if I and the driver will be called for a meeting),” said Garciano.

Radaza is set to meet the taxi driver to hear his side about the incident. (Flornisa M. Gitgano/SunStar Cebu)
