THIRD district Representative Alfredo Benitez said he is eyeing to double the number of indigent families in his area of jurisdiction who will be covered by the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program (NOCHP).
At present, third district has the highest coverage of NOCHP in the province with 34,000 individuals who are beneficiaries and card holders.
By the end of this year, the number of indigent beneficiaries will be doubled, Benitez said.
Since May this year, a massive registration of indigents based on listing of the National Housing Targeting System (NHTS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been ongoing.
"We want our indigent families in the district who will be confined at government hospitals to have no balance billing," Benitez said.
He said the NOCHP coordinators are stationed in all government hospitals to cater to indigent patients in the third district and to assist them in availing also of the "Point of Care" system of Philippine Health Insurance Corp. that covers indigent patients within 72 hours of hospital confinement.
Benitez also provided two dialysis machines at the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City to cater to more dialysis patients.
