Lazatin: Free public Wi-Fi bill to benefit public

PAMPANGA First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II has expressed support for the Free Public Wi-Fi Act (House Bill 5225) as it aims to benefit the public and the generation of people who depend on information technology.

Lazatin is part of the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) which pushed for the said measure.

This aims to provide free wireless Internet connection in national government offices, public schools, state universities and colleges, public libraries, parks and plazas, barangay centers, public hospitals and rural health centers, and public transportation terminals.

The measure will also mandate a minimum Internet speed of 10 megabits per second (Mbps), which the law targets to provide in public areas within two years from the law’s effectivity.

Lazatin said that this would enable easy access to the internet and would foster even better internet connectivity.
