Lazatin turns 83 on June 28, vows to reclaim City Hall

ANGELES CITY -- Public servant Carmelo Lazatin Sr., who turns 83 Wednesday June 28, said he will definitely run for mayor in 2019.

“Nung eya salese ing administrasyon keng siyudad (If the administration of the city does not improve), I will definitely run for mayor in 2019,” he said.

Lazatin said running for mayor in 2019 is a tough decision for him since he has been enjoying being retired from public service since 2013.

“It is not easy being a public servant. It requires a lot of sacrifices,” he said.

He said he will retain his battlecry in the 2013 elections, which is to rid Angeles City of corrupt officials and implement efficient tax collections so as not to increase taxes.

Lazatin also said that if the barangay elections will push through this October, he will also run for Balibago barangay captain.

“First, I want to improve the central business district in the city and to eventually help my sons in advancing their public service careers,” Lazatin said.

His two sons won in the May 2016 elections.

Carmelo “JonJon” Lazatin II defeated incumbent first district Representative Joseller Guiao, while Angeles City Councilor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. was re-elected with 83,000 votes.

Lazatin Sr., the only son of Pampanga Governor and Assemblyman Rafael Lazatin, has served the first district of Pampanga from 1987 to 2013.

He was elected Pampanga first district representative from 1987 to 1998; Angeles City Mayor from 1998 to 2007; and Pampanga first district representative from 2007 to 2013.

He was named most outstanding congressman by Congress Magazine from 2008 to 2012 and Most Outstanding Kapampangan in the field of Public Service in 2011.
