BACOLOD City Councilor Caesar Distrito said the budget for the city’s sports program should be doubled to support well its delegates and athletes to the Batang Pinoy Philippine National Games, other national and even international sports competitions.
Distrito, chairperson of the committee on appropriations and finance, said that during the recent budget hearing, he vowed to increase the appropriation for sports development from P2.4 million to P5 million.
He added that city will also fund the Palarong Pambarangay and Palarong PamBacolod, and will initiate year-long sports programs in basketball, volleyball, chess, and football.
“Bacolodnons are fond of watching sports events and it is high time for the city to allocate funds to promote such activities that do not only entertain people, but also promote health, fitness and deviate the youth from drug addiction,” Distrito said.
