Liberal Party conducts inventory of members

THE Liberal Party (LP) is conducting an inventory of their membership in Negros Occidental.

Former Manapla mayor Manuel Escalante III, LP provincial chair, said the party’s national leadership had asked him who are the members in the province who have remained with the party.

“I think they are trying to rebuild the party,” said Escalante, who is also an executive assistant of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.

He noted that there are still LP members in the cities of Bacolod, Silay and Himamaylan.

He, however, clarified that there is no official communication yet from national party officials.

Escalante said that Senator Francis Pangilinan, interim LP chair, is proposing to hold a national party assembly on January 17, “but nothing is official yet.”

Escalante said that his appointment as provincial chair was only for the election period.

“I cannot even call myself an LP member or a member of any party because I am not a public official,” Escalante said.

LP standard bearer Manuel Roxas II had an overwhelming win in Negros Occidental during the May 9 elections.
