Lightning causes fire in 2 stores

A FIRE fire hit two business establishments and destroyed an estimated P1.8 million worth of properties at the public market of San Enrique, Negros Occidental on Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Arnel Nonato, officer-in-charge municipal fire marshal, said about P1 million worth of groceries and other items were destroyed in the establishment owned by Oscar Guanzon, and P800,000 worth of goods and motorcycle parts were lost in the store owned by Mona Puertillano.

Based on the investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire, which started at around 8 p.m., was triggered by a lightning that struck the transformer connected to Guanzon’s store.

Nonato said the fire was declared under control after an hour and a fire out was announced at 1 a.m., after BFP personnel totally cleared the area.
