Limited data plan? Use Google's Datally

WANT to make the most out of your limited data plan?

Google’s Datally application got you covered.

Datally is a mobile-data saving application that helps a mobile user understand, control and save data allocation.

It helps solve one of the biggest pain points for smartphone users not just in the Philippines but also around the world which is the worry about data usage, particularly running out of it.

Eden Rose Artuz, 23 a user of the Datally since November 2016, when it was launched for pilot testing, said the application helped her monitor her data usage which she usually uses to communicate with her colleagues and clients of her online business.

Alex Dimayuga, an 18-year-old student and a user of Datally since February 2017, said she uses the application in order to balance her limited data plan for her researches and social media.

“With my limited allowance, I am conscious about saving money including expenses on cellphone load. I spend P70 to P80 a week. Through Datally’s data saver feature, I am now able to use it in apps and activities I truly need,” she said during the Datally’s launching at the Google headquarters in Taguig City on Wednesday, November 29.

Brian Hendricks, product manager of Datally, said their main goal in making the application is to help smartphone users manage their mobile data, especially since mobile networks usually offer limited data plans.

The Datally application has four key features such as the Data Saver, Data Server Bubble, Personalized Alerts and Wi-fi Finder.

Applications frequently use data in the background for updating content and information but with Datally’s Data Saver feature users can already control data on an app-by-app basis, so that data only goes to apps they care about most.

By clicking on the Data Server option all the applications installed in the mobile phone will appear in which you are given an option to block it data usage.

Once the Data Saver is turned on, the Datally’s Data Saver Bubble which serves like a speedometer will appear when a user goes into an application in which it will show the running data usage of the certain app. By clicking on the bubble, the user can also easily block the app’s data use especially when it is not in use.

With the Personalized Alerts feature, Datally alerts users when apps start consuming a lot of data, and it allows them to see how much data they’ve used on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

The Wi-Fi finder, on the other hand, helps the user find a “reliable” wi-fi nearby as some wants to use more data than they have on their mobile plans, such as when they want to watch HD videos.

Datally is available for free at the Google Play Store globally and works on all smart phones running android 5.0 or higher.

Here are the other facts you have to know about Datally.

Datally shows you how much data you’ve used on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and alerts you when apps consume a lot of data. Over time, Datally will learn your usage patterns and offer more recommendations to save data.

Apps frequently use data in the background to update content and information. Many times, you might not know this this is happening. Datally’s Data Saver feature turns off background data for these non-essential functions and lets you manage data usage on an app-by-app basis.

The Data Saver bubble blocks background data and tracks real-time data usage, whatever app you’re in — it’s like a speedometer for your data. You can also block data with one tap if data usage gets out of control.

Finding quality public Wi-Fi can be a challenge. If you’re in range of a public network, Datally’s Wi-Fi finder will notify you and help you connect. You can even get directions on how to get there.

Once you’re connected to a network, don’t forget to rate it to help others in the Datally community find great Wi-Fi.

The Datally app takes about 6MB of space, so it’s easy on your phone’s storage.

Datally works on all phones running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher, and it’s available globally on the Google Play Store. (SunStar Philippines)
