Local government ‘should entice investors’

MAGALANG -- A former vice mayor in this town said the local government unit (LGU) should encourage investors to put up business in this agricultural municipality.

Lito Abalos, a vice mayoralty bet of Lakas-Kampi-CMD here, said the move will solve the town’s problem on unemployment, which is causing poverty.

“Naturally, if there are investments in our town, there will be jobs for the people,” Abalos said.

This second-class town only has two commercial banks and doesn’t even have a multi-national food chain, according to Abalos.

“It is the job of the local government unit to encourage investors to come in and do business in our town,” he said.

The former town official also cited the role of the municipal government in promoting the town’s agriculture.

The LGU, he said, should assist the farmers in their rice and crop production in terms of subsidy and others.

Aside from this, Abalos suggests a drop point of harvest and other produce so the farmers may have a ready market for their crops.

“Kamukha nung Bagsakan sa Pangasinan. Nakakalungkot sabihin na ang ibang mga tao sa Magalang sa Pampanga, Angeles pa namimili ng mga gulay na galing din sa aming mga farmers,” Abalos said.

Abalos vowed to work on these programs if he will be given a chance to serve.
