PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has designated Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Lorraine Badoy as spokesperson of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

In a statement on Monday, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed that Badoy was named as PCOO's Undersecretary for New Media and the department's official spokesperson

Duterte signed Badoy's appointment on October 19.

Andanar was optimistic that Badoy, as a new member of PCOO, would help attain the agency's goal to keep the public aware of the government's gains to "change the country for the better."

"We welcome Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy to the Presidential Communications Operations Office family," Andanar said.

"We look forward to working together as we bring the government closer to the people by keeping them informed of the progress this administration is making towards changing the country for the better," he added.

Badoy showed her support to Duterte through posts on her Facebook page.

Badoy, a known pro-Duterte administration, was appointed an assistant secretary of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in February.

During her stint at DSWD, she was in charge of the implementation of the medical assistance to drug dependents who seek rehabilitation.

Andanar said Badoy's "passion" while she was still at the DSWD would be a tool to help PCOO "reach out to more people through new media."

"We are confident that the same zeal and enthusiasm that animated her in caring for the less privileged will enable us to more effectively reach out to more people through new media," the Communications Secretary said. (SunStar Philippines)
