Lubao town gets BFAR monitoring station in Sta. Catalina

LUBAO -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) inaugurated on Wednesday a monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) station in this town in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

The inauguration was attended by BFAR Regional Director Willy Cruz, Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources head Art Punsalan and former Representative Juan Miguel Arroyo.

The monitoring station is located along the major river crossings of the town.

According to BFAR regional director Willy Cruz, the facility aims to reinforce fishing laws in the area and promote safe and sustainable fishing.

The facility will also serve as the base for BFAR personnel in monitoring the major rivers in the area and their current conditions. It is expected to be beneficial in strengthening of the monitoring, control and surveillance program of the country.

The BFAR said that the MCS is part of the efforts to protect local waters and deter illicit fishing activities.

Lubao is the main producer of fresh water fish in Central Luzon.

The facility is the first of its kind in the province. It is also expected to benefit the nearby coastal town of Sasmuan.
