Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Bohol

CEBU CITY -- A magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit the province of Bohol and nearby areas at 9:47 a.m. Monday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake was located at eight kilometers southeast of Buenavista, Bohol.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of three kilometers.

Intensity 5 was felt in San Miguel, Bohol; intensity 4 in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu province, and Buenavista, Bohol.

Intensity 3 was felt in Iloilo City; Bogo City, Cebu; Tagbilaran City; and Bacolod City; while intensity 1 was felt in President Roxas, Capiz.

Phivolcs said no damages and aftershocks are expected.

But Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III declared a half-day work today, March 30, to all Provincial Capitol employees following the earthquake, according to Cebu Provincial Government's post on its official Facebook page.

The Provincial Government said that personnel of the engineering office and disaster offices are checking on the Capitol building for any possible damage. It added that Davide gave employees the chance to check on their homes and families.
