A MAGNITUDE 4.8 earthquake hit the coastal towns of Sultan Kudarat province early Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the 2:51 a.m. tremor was traced 134 kilometers southwest of Palimbang, a coastal town of Sultan Kudarat.
No casualty or damage to property was reported.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was 598 kilometers deep.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are possible.
Earlier, at 4:02 a.m. Tuesday, a magnitude 2.5 quake was recorded 53 kilometers west of South Upi in Maguindanao.
Phivolcs said no casualty or damage to property was recorded and residents did not even feel the tremor.(PNA)
