Making memories last a lifetime

THE bride and groom will smell something extraordinary as this artisan perfumery brand, Oscar Mejia Artisan Fragrances, offers nothing but fragrances of love, faith, and eternity.

If you plan to tie the knot with your other better half and look for something unique and new concepts for your wedding giveaways, this perfume brand is just right for you!

Oscar Mejia, a Dabawenyo natural perfumer, the first and only in the country, said that his fragrances are proudly handcrafted and produced in the Philippines wherein "every scent is a concoction of fine, pure, and all natural essential oils that are carefully designed, blended and bottled to provide a distinct olfactory experience that preserves memories."

The artisan fragrance brand, which started in 2013, is offering bespoke services including “Scentscaping” which can be perfect for life’s special events like weddings.

The natural perfumer defined "Scentscaping" as "the design of an interior environment by using a palette of scents to resonate with other sensory cues including light, color, music, and texture in order to convey a theme or enhance a mood with the intention of creating a richer personal and inter-personal experience."

“Weddings can be more memorable by gently diffusing a custom-designed scent. According to studies ‘Scentemoticons’ live in your olfactive memory, the largest and most acute part of your memory, collectively containing all of your most powerful emotional memories,” he said.

He said, this is perfect as tokens and giveaways to guests because once these emotional memories are formed, “it is almost impossible to separate the emotion from the scent, transforming your event to a treasured memory that can last a lifetime.”

"It is the trend now because it helps in making the event even more memorable," Mejia said, adding that he set no price for the package as he will adjust depending on the clients budget.

But he shared that usually, 20 ml bottle (for guests) can start at P95 while prices of 100 ml bottle for entourage ranges from P350 to P400 inclusive for scent development, custom packaging and label. Perfume bars are also available.

In its featured client, Jason and Mika, Oscar Mejia Artisan Fragrances developed a fragrance that invokes the image of the ocean wind meeting the mountain breeze capturing the interest of the couple: the man’s penchant for the mountains and the woman’s love for the beach.

Apart from weddings, Scentscaping can also be applied for anyone's homes, events, among others.

Mejia said that his perfumer design process begins by providing clients with a questionnaire to help them articulate what they want.

“I ask for various elements that they want to remember or think of when they smell the scent- memories, colors, textures, images and even music," Mejia said adding that the next thing he does is designing a concept board "to check if he and the client is consistent in what they want" and how he "envisions" the scent.

In presenting to the client, Mejia shared that he usually presents three studies (of scents) for the client to evaluate.

"We can either alter it or scrap the concept all together. When we agree on a scent, we go through production of the final product. We also discuss the packaging and the labels which are likewise customizable," he said.

The whole process of artisan perfume making, for Mejia, takes a minimum of four to six weeks.

In Davao City, Oscar Mejia Artisan Fragrances products are available at Seagreen cafe and lifestyle shop at Circumferential Road, Dona Vicenta Subdivision.
