Mall goers get creative at Arts and Crafts fest

A FUSION of creativity and discovery, National Bookstore’s second Make and Create Arts & Crafts Festival featured both artists and non-artists alike to participate in an afternoon of water coloring, drawing, and crafting.

In 2016, National Bookstore held their first Arts & Crafts Festival and decided on a second run this year. The Make and Create Arts & Crafts Festival, held last Oct. 15 at the SM Northwing Atrium, became a fun gathering of artists from all over the Philippines. The festival was free of admission charge, and it also included three live murals that anyone who registered could contribute to. Aside from this, there was also a raffle to win freebies!

The past year, National Bookstore has been introducing new products in stores, such as Sakura, Blackwing, Marvy Uchida, Prismacolor, Fabriano, and much more. According to Mr. Weebong, watercolorist, sketch artist, and teacher, the Make and Create Arts & Crafts Festival was geared towards promoting these new products to aspiring artists, and to allow them to meet each other and share their talents with the creative community.

Mr. Weebong was also the artist for Fabriano watercolor paper, a high-end paper brand now available in National Booktstore, which sold well after Mr. Weebong’s demonstration.

Included in the event was a demo on calligraphy and floral watercolors conducted by Williza Camille Go, the artist for Sakura. She has been with National Bookstore events for two years now, and is also associated with brands such as Limelight, Sharpie, and Titus. According to her, the Make and Create Arts & Crafts Festival will most probably make its third comeback in 2018, especially since many are interested in calligraphy and other artistic media.

The National Bookstore Make and Create Arts & Crafts festival was a total success, in terms of both participant turnout and in promoting creative expression. We hope to see more spectacular and fun-filled events from National Bookstore! (Sabrina Go / Sacred Heart School - Hijas de Jesus grade 12 students)
