Man, 2 kids hacked to death by relative

A MAN and his two children died while his elder son and live-in partner were seriously injured after they were hacked by a relative inside their house at Sitio Cambugnay, Barangay Cabacungan in La Castellana, Negros Occidental Sunday morning.

The fatalities were identified as Luis Solis, 39, his son Marcelino, 11, and daughter Lady Loisa, 6.

Injured were Solis’s partner Jennifer Caratayco, 27, and his 13-year-old son.

Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon, town police chief, said Solis met the suspect, his cousin Richard Paquera, 23, around 10 a.m. on the way to the victim’s house.

Paquera attacked Solis with a bolo. Solis ran away, but the suspect chased him until they reached his house.

Teoxon said Caratayco shouted for help, but nobody heard her because their house is far from their neighbors.

Solis and his two children died on the spot due to multiple hack wounds while Caratayco sustained head injuries. The arm of Solis’s elder son was cut.

The two wounded were brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Teoxon said Paquera then went home, took a shower, and voluntarily surrendered to the police. He is detained at the station.

Teoxon said the suspect has a grudge with his cousin due to land conflict.
