Man killed by fallen wall

MABALACAT CITY -- An 81-year-old farm caretaker here was killed after a wall covering his makeshift house inside a piggery in Barangay Mabiga here fell on him during the onslaught of Typhoon Santi, which battered Central and Northern Luzon Saturday dawn.

The City Disaster Office identified the fatality as Ricardo Del Rosario, 81, of Purok 2 Barangay Mawaque in this city.

Strong winds toppled trees, ripped away roofs, and destroyed houses in several parts of the city.

Bernie Relles, City Disaster Action officer, said that more than 50 trees were knocked down as the typhoon passed the city at dawn on Saturday.

More than 10 Acacia trees fell down along the MacArthur Highway, injuring six persons.

Relles said more than 600 families were affected by the calamity.

The City Government prepared 2,000 packs of relief goods for the victims, who already returned home as of Sunday.

Relles said his office is still assessing the damage brought about by the latest disaster.
