A MAN was arrested after he mauled his uncle to death past 9 p.m. Sunday, October 8, in Sitio Kambitbiton, Barangay Mangaco, Ginatilan, Cebu.
Police Officer 3 Ruben Catubig identified the suspect as Nestor Cabang, 26, who admitted mauling Violito Aguilo, 42.
Investigation showed that Cabang and Aguilo had a spat while they were drinking liquor with a friend at the house of Cesaria Jatico.
Before going to Jatico's house, Aguilo and his nephew Andre attended the birthday celebration on Sunday morning. Cabang later joined and they had a drinking spree.
Aguilo gave a P20 bill to Cabang, who asked for P5 from him. Cabang later returned P15 to his uncle, then he gripped the latter's hand.
The victim got mad and he almost came to blow with his nephew, but they were separated.
After they finished drinking six bottles of a local wine in Jatico's residence, Aguilo and Andre went home, leaving Cabang behind.
Andre was walking ahead of his uncle when he heard a noise from behind. When he turned around, he saw Cabang punching Aguilo, who was lying on the ground motionless.
Aguilo's neighbor, Lito Ortega, saw Cabang punching the victim several times. He shouted at Cabang to stop. The latter left and went home.
Ortega called his two friends and they tried to revive Aguilo, but they failed. They later reported the incident past 12 a.m., Monday, October 9.
Police arrested Cabang past 2 a.m.
A murder complaint will be filed against Cabang before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
