Marañon tells OPA chief to ‘shape up’

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. told Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan to shape up after the latter was reportedly not showing up in his office.

Marañon said Friday that he called the attention of Tabianan for his absenteeism.

“I warned him that he should attend to his office because he will be held liable in the end,” he said.

“It will (also) reflect his efficiency. It can’t go on this way.”

The governor said that Tabianan will be held administratively if he continues not to perform his duties.

On the two disallowances issued by the Commission on Audit (COA) to Tabianan, Marañon said it’s his problem and he has to answer for it.

The governor said they will “wait for the final recommendation of COA.”

Tabianan received two disallowances – the P299,000 amount spent for the fertilizer project in 2013, and for the various vegetable seeds program worth P239,805.80 implemented in 2014.

Tabianan had already settled the P299,000 disallowed amount earlier this week while he was given six months to comply with the needed requirements for the other disallowed amount.

Marañon said he couldn’t answer if Tabianan will be held administratively due to the consecutive disallowed amounts because it’s a legal matter.
