Maricel Soriano returns to TV via 'MMK'

DIAMOND star Maricel Soriano marks her return to television via the longest-running drama anthology in Asia, "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (MMK).

The seasoned actress will headline the September 23 episode opposite JC de Vera in a story about a mother and her adopted son who are bound not by blood, but by love.

She will play the role of Guily, a woman who wholeheartedly adopted a little boy from her niece and treat him as her own. He will eventually learn the truth about his true identity and will want to meet his biological parent.

Soriano said she was moved by the story and the lesson it was trying to impart to the viewers that's why she immediately said yes to the role.

"When I read the script, I cried a lot. The story is so moving and it touches the heart. [It teaches us] not to be ashamed of who we are, what we are and where we come from. We have nothing else but our own name that is why we should take good care of it," the actress said.

This is going to be Soriano's return to "MMK" after appearing in an episode 14 years ago.

She was last seen acting in the big screen project "Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy" which graced cinemas back in 2013.

Directed by Dado Lumibao and written by Jaymar Santos Castor, "MMK" airs this Saturday after "Little Big Shots" on ABS-CBN. (SunStar Philippines)
