Marvil: Council slams DPWH-CAR anew

OBVIOUSLY disappointed by the late completion of the construction projects along the major thoroughfares in the City of Baguio which is causing heavy traffic at any given time of the day, the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office represented by Engr. Edgardo Enriquez was castigated by members of the City Council for their failure to finish the said projects on time.

What further displeased the council was the non-appearance of those personalities when they were first invited during the July 25 regular session.

It will be recalled that the said agency made a commitment in so far as the regional project along Abanao Road that it will be completed by the first week of July while that of Harrison Road will be completed by the end of July and the project at Kayang Street near the market will be finished by June 30, but these projects were still ongoing prompting Liga ng mga Barangay President and Councilor Michael Lawana to again summon the DPWH-CAR to clarify, shed light and explain the prevailing status and situation of the city-wide construction of drainage system.

During last Monday’s regular session, Engr. Enriquez apologized to the council for the delay of the completion of the said projects but he promised anew that these will be completed by August 25.

Enriquez further said that the curing on the road project in front of the Baguio City Police Office will be achieved as early as Friday thus the two lanes will be opened during that time, while the diggings at the stretch of Abanao Road is expected to be accomplished by August 15.

The City Council likewise reiterated their observation about the safety measures being implemented by the contractor. They said that accidents have already occurred because of the lack of proper signage in the construction areas. With this, the DPWH-CAR assured that they will penalize the contractors if they will not comply with their orders and they will also sanction the said contractors if they will not be able to finish their job on the specified date in their contracts.
