Mayor seeks full audit for Liga stalls

MAYOR Mauricio Domogan wants to have a full audit of the Session Road in Bloom (SRB) with the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) and the Liga ng mga Barangays.

Domogan said irregularities in size and products sold in the Liga area has reached his office, as well as the participation of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in the one week trade fair at the Central Business District.

He said the audit, which will include the HRAB areas in the SRB, will be the same with the Liga and will be presented to the public.

“In the past, Liga was working with us directly. Now that they have decided to work on their own together with PCL is inevitable. We just wish they have informed us the earliest possible time. The people who come and enjoy the Session Road in Bloom will be in a better position to judge which is better and more organized,” HRAB’s Andrew Pinero said.

Liga president and Councilor Michael Lawana said the PCL partnered with the Liga solely for the SRB, which allowed the body to lease stalls and sell products.

Lawana said the Liga has merely asserted its jurisdiction over the streets and is not competing with HRAB, adding the group also has the capacity to organize an event. He said barangay officials themselves are keeping their designated areas clean and orderly.

Lawana said he has no problems with an audit, stressing: “Dapat lahat including HRAB who has majority of stalls in SRB.”

Lawana said there are an estimated 73 stalls for the PCL and another 75 stalls for the Liga.

“Wala pang final kasi di pa fully occupied yung Assumption Road, walang tenants na may gusto dun. Marami nagback out kasi mahina daw,” added Lawana.

The Liga has asked to handle streets during the festival next month, expanding the Assumption and Perfecto streets they annually handle to include Calderon, portions of Lower Session Road from Mabini Session Road Intersection downwards and portions of Governor Pack.

Lawana said stalls are being leased at varying prices.

“Hindi parehas kasi may mga libre and discounted. Ang 3x4 around P35,000 same as HRAB, ang 2x2 around P15,000 puwera ang miscellaneous fees such as taxes, tents electrical, and maintenance,” added Lawana.

The revenue generated from the Liga activity will be used for the clean and green and peace and order programs of the organization, which represents the 128 barangays of the city.
