Mayor wants SGLG hall of fame award for Apalit

APALIT -- Mayor Peter Nucom divulged Friday his desire to put this municipality in the Hall of Fame roster of the prestigious Seal of the Good Local Governance (SGLG) awardees of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Nucom said that the SGLG, formerly known as the Seal of Good Housekeeping, is a rightful recognition of the good efforts of the local government to provide inclusive development for its people and the community.

"Bago tayo maawardan, nagre-require sila ng mga documents na nagpapatunay na ang local government ay nagtatrabaho at tayo maman ay nakapag-comply doon," he noted.

Receiving its second consecutive award this year, Nucom said that Apalit is a candidate for a Hall of Fame award if it maintains or improve its performance based on the requirements of the DILG.

"Siyempre gusto natin tuloy-tuloy yung magandang awards na natatanggap ng Apalit lalo na next year Hall of Famer na tayo. Kaya kaming lahat dito, double time sa trabaho hindi lang para sa award kundi yung makapagserbisyo sa ApaliteƱo," he said.

He added that he is now pushing his fellow government officials and department heads to extend their efforts and make documentation of all transactions for a transparent and corruption-free government.

Meanwhile, Nucom also disclosed that he will be allocating the P3-million Performance Challenge Fund for the rehabilitation of Bagong Pag-asa Subdivision road, an alternate route used by public utility jeepneys going to Macabebe and Masantol to lessen traffic build-up at the market area.

He said that the project aims to provide convenience to commuters and motorists passing by the town as well as attract more investors through proper traffic management.

"Isa sa mga priority natin simula ng pagkaupo natin is yung traffic dyan sa may palengke. Kung hindi natin i-manage yan, araw-araw buhol-buhol ang traffic dyan at syempre hindi naman maganda yun para sa Apalit kaya we've decided na diyan i-allocate yung funds ng SGLG," he said.
