Mental health services

IT IS okay to ask for help. We all experience happy and sad moments. Life can be difficult. Some people move on right away but there are many who still suffer from pains and hurts.

A few would consider taking their lives to end their pain. It is important to know that when one is down and feeling low, there are people who can help you. You are not alone. Your family and friends are available and there are mental health professionals who will listen to you.

Negros Occidental has a number of mental health professionals and organizations who offer services for people who have mental health issues.

There are about seven psychiatrists in Negros Occidental. Most schools and universities have a Guidance Office where licensed guidance counselors are available. They provide counseling and other services.

There are also a number of licensed psychologists in the province. There are also life coaches around.

The Provincial Health Office has a mental health unit who provide psychiatric missions in the different district hospitals in Negros. They have an office near the Provincial Capitol.

The city of Bacolod is managing the Bacolod City Mental Health Care Center in Paglaum Village. Consultation is every Wednesday morning until a resident psychiatrist will be available. They also offer psychological services by appointment. You can reach them at (034) 709-9364.

Two of our psychiatrists see patients (OPD) in the regional hospital twice a week.

There are also non-government organizations like Negros Occidental Rehabilitation Foundation Inc. who offer psychiatric services every Monday afternoon.

There are drug rehabilitation centers here in the province, like the Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation in Victorias City, New Beginnings and Better Days Ahead.

The Department of Health and the Natasha Goulbourn Foundation provides Hopeline, a 24/7 line for emotional crisis and suicide prevention. You can call them at 02-804-4673 or 0917-558-4673.
