Miascor asks Duterte to reconsider decision

CLARK FREEPORT — Aviation services provider Miascor has appeald to President Duterte to reconsider his position after the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) terminated its ground handling services following a pilferage involving its employees.

This after Duterte ordered the termination of MIASCOR’s contract following the incident that victimized an overseas Filipino worker from Singapore who lost P84,000 worth of items and other valuables.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal wrote Miascor president Fidel Harmon Reyes saying the company should vacate the airport complex within 60 days.

“Following the expiration of the Lease and Concession Agreement dated July 8, 2014 between the MIAA and Miascor last March 31, 2017, please be advised that the Agreement shall no longer be renewed.”

Miascor stated that it shall formally issue an appeal to the President to "kindly reconsider his position on behalf of our almost 4,000 regular employees and their families who will be affected."

The aviation services firm added that "it is unfortunate that the actions of six erring employees in Clark International Airport have negatively impacted the company.”

In cooperation with Clark airport authorities, Miascor said it acted very quickly and placed those allegedly involved under preventive suspension.

“They have since been terminated and criminal and administrative charges have been filed against them,” it added.

Miascor also stated that it quickly coordinated with the theft victim, Jovenil Delacruz, upon learning about the incident and reached an amicable settlement.

“We would like to stress that we do not tolerate this type of behavior from any of our employees,” the cmpany said. “Miascor is committed to conducting its business with the highest standards of compliance and ethics. And every employee is expected to demonstrate professionalism, honesty and integrity.”

“The recent incident does not define what Miascor stands for and how it operates,” it said. “Miascor has been in operations since 1974 and has presence in several key airports in the country, including NAIA, providing aviation services.”

Miascor said its customers “and the traveling public can attest to our service excellence and through the years the Company has been a major contributor to the growth of the country’s aviation and tourism industry” and vowed to “do everything it can to remedy the situation.”
