Microtel hosts Batang Pinoy chess eliminations

MICROTEL by Wyndham in Damosa, Lanang will host Davao City's Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships chess eliminations on Saturday and Sunday, October 29 to 30.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines regional director James Infiesto bared this during an interview with SunStar Davao Thursday, October 27.

Infiesto said the use of venue is free, adding, "Maganda ang venue which they provided for the eliminations."

He also said the registration is P75 for snacks and officiating, saying, "The fee is very reasonable naman, para din sa snacks ng mga arbiters."

Infiesto said around 50 to 100 participants are expected to join the try-outs. Categories entered are 13 to 17 and 12 years old and below which will vie in standard, rapid and blitz events.

"Ang gold medalist ng bawat format ay sila ang ipapadala," he said.

Infiesto also sees a big potential in Earl Rhay Mantilla of University of Mindanao who outlasted Asia's first Grand Master Eugene Torre during their simultaneous exhibition game last Sunday, adding: "Magaling si Earl sa rapid and blitz."

But Infiesto clarified that there are more tough contenders in Davao, saying: "Kaya I really made an eliminations, kasi we can always speculate kungwala."

Infiesto, however, said he is going to talk with Ronnie Tabudlong with regards to who will coach the athletes in Batang Pinoy, adding that they intend to have a coach who has a good rapport with the athletes. (ABM)
