A WORKER of Victorias Milling Company (VMC) died after he fell into a mud mingler inside the mill compound in Barangay 16, Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
Police identified the fatality as Valeriano Mapa, 57, unit headman of the raw sugar department.
Superintendent German Garbosa, chief of Victorias City Police Station, said Mapa was on duty at 1:05 a.m. together with a colleague when he accidentally fell into the manhole leading to the mud mingler that has a temperature of 400 degrees.
Mapa’s companion switched off the mingler and called for help. Mapa sustained severe burns and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Garbosa said Mapa was subjected to an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
The VMC management will extend financial assistance to the Mapa family, the police chief added.
Teen girl found dead
In another development, the decomposing body of teenage girl was found in the overflow of Barangay Talaptap in La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, chief of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Katrina Cerilo, 17, who was discovered by a barangay watchman around 6 p.m.
Initial investigation showed that Cerilo went to her cousin’s house in the adjacent barangay on September 24 and went missing after that.
Nacion said the victim was suffering from epilepsy and probably had a seizure. Her body was subjected to an autopsy. (GYM)
