WITH growing environmental problems in the country, Miss Earth 2015 beauties reiterated their call to the public in seriously addressing social environment concerns and take corresponding actions, as they said that "sense of ownership" must be embodied.

Guesting during the Earth Talk dubbed as "Inspiring People, Saving the World" Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong and Miss Earth-Air Dayanna Gragede Saturday, October 15, talked about their advocacies in environment conservation and protection.

"Climate change, long is the days that it's just a theory. It's no longer a myth. It's happening, and we feel it's getting hotter and hotter and typhoons are getting stronger and stronger," Ong said.

According to her, the country has suffered a lot in terms of natural calamities to which the country is vulnerable.

"We're all contributors and part of it and again, sense of ownership. It's not because you don't see it doesn't happen," Ong said.

They also divulged what they have done so far during their reign as Miss Earth queens wherein they said that they have been involved in several environmental projects such as tree plantings, information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign in a bid to spread the significance of preserving the environment for the future generation.

"We've been doing school tours ever since I won as Miss Philippines," Ong added.

She also said that change should happen now and the participation of everybody in realizing the environmental advocacy is vital.

"Like how I answered my Q and A in Vienna, all this things that we want to do for the environment is possible only if we work together," Ong said.

She commended the effort of the government citing the recent tree planting with the Armed Forces of the Philippines' in raising one million seeds.

"Other people they just plant and take pictures and just go without taking care or checking the trees," Ong said.

Gregade, on one hand, said that in mitigating the negative effect of climate change, there's a need to use renewable energy instead of other energy sources like coal energy, which is the primary cause of environmental problems because of the carbon emission.

She said that climate change has long been recognized and it is getting worse every day as it is not only an environment but a humanitarian issue as well, thus, the need to give emphasis on the matter.
