Missing official found in seawaters off Zamboanguita

A VILLAGE official who went missing on Monday dawn, February 5, while fishing in the seawaters off Barangay Looc, Ginatilan town, Cebu was found off the shore of Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental on Tuesday afternoon, February 6.

The fatality was identified as Edgar Jadraque, councilman of Barangay Poblacion 1.

Police Officer 3 Niel Fernandez, desk officer, said investigation showed Jadraque, 59, went fishing with Paulo Jorolan, 69.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, big waves hit their motorboat. Jadraque lost his balance and fell into the sea.

Jorolan, who later reported the incident to Ginatilan Police Station, failed to recover the village official.

Jorolan tried to rescue Jadraque, but he failed. He went back to the boat, which was washed ashore in Samboan town, Cebu.

The vessel's engine also conked out.

Jadraque's body was found floating off Apo Island, Barangay Malatapay, Zamboanguita past 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Jadraque's relatives recovered his body on Wednesday, February 7.

Malabuyoc Municipal Councilor Manolito Quiñanola said Jadraque became a village official after he won one of the seats in the town council in the 2016 elections.

Isabelo Carcueva, then first councilor, succeeded Quiñanola. Jadraque was chosen to fill in the vacancy of the village council. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
