THE Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) deployed additional police personnel in Guihulngan City, following the alleged sightings of about 20 armed men on board two pump boats in Barangay Basac on Wednesday, May 17.
Norppo acting Director Henry Biñas said men from the Provincial Public Safety Battalion will augment the city police force and the Philippine Army.
They will be placed in strategic locations, but he refused to divulge the exact number of augmentation personnel.
Biñas said he advised members of the Norppo intelligence network to double their efforts in information gathering and monitoring.
He directed Superintendent Arnel Arpon, officer-in-charge of Guihulngan City Police Station, to remain on full alert and coordinate with the army and adjacent police stations especially the Canlaon City Police Station for preventive measures.
The army is conducting separate monitoring on the possible terror threat. We are intensifying our security operations since members of a terrorist group have been sighted in Bohol, Biñas said.
Still, he assured the public that everything is normal in Guihulngan and in the province as no significant incidents happened.
The report of the alleged sightings is manageable and the province is still open for peace and development, Biñas said.
He advised residents in the city to be vigilant as well.
