Motorist punches traffic enforcer

A MOTORIST was arrested in Divisoria Monday, October 17, for punching a traffic enforcer in the face.

Authorities identified the suspect as Yusoph Dumaong, 24, and a resident of Barra Opol, Misamis Oriental.

The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) traffic enforcer, identified as Gilbert Duldulao, 30, was managing the flow of traffic when he flagged down the suspect, who was on board a motorcycle, for not wearing helmet and for an illegal parking violation.

Duldulao said the suspect attempted to escape but was cornered by Duldulao and Police Officer 2 Cliff Lee Baroro, assigned at Police Station 10 in Barangay Cugman, who happened to be in the area.

Police said the suspect resisted arrest and suddenly punch Duldulao, hitting the latter's left eyebrow.

Dumaong also scuffled and wrestled with the police officer and grab the latter's necklace.

Chief Inspector Maricris Mulat, Police Station 1 chief, said the suspect continued to be uncooperative even while already inside the police station.

"Busa ko gidakop kay pangwarta ra man na trabaho sa mga pulis og RTA," Mulat said, quoting Dumaong.

But Mulat said there were no signs that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"Dili man siya hubog and dili pud ta ka-determine if naka-drugs siya unless ma-drug test," Mulat said.

Mulat said the suspect will be charged with assaulting the traffic enforcer who was only doing his job.

The suspect’s motorcycle has been put in the custody of the RTA. (AS)
