MTRCB chief: There's proper venue for Mocha Uson's complaints

MOVIE and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairperson Rachel Arenas wished that Mocha Uson coursed through proper venue her concerns on several shows aired on the television.

Uson, a former sexy star and one of the 30 board members of the MTRCB, uploaded a video blog last February 17 questioning the quality of programs shown on ABS-CBN.

She complained over the racy episode of "Ipaglaban Mo" last February 11 and the pilot broadcast of "The Better Half" last February 13.

Uson also claimed that other members of the board, particularly those appointed by the past administration, are "not open to change."

The sexy star threatened to resign if, she said, this will continue in MTRCB and in the local television programming.

Arenas, in a radio interview on Monday evening in “Showbiz Talk Ganern” on DZRH, said she wished Uson raised her issues on the board so that they could discuss it.

"We represent the Office of the President. So, we follow certain decorum also. Yun ang ideal, that's been the practice and I want to continue that practice. Then kung mag away-away tayo doon, magsigawan man tayo doon, at the end of the day, we reached a consensus," she said.

Arenas also refuted Uson’s claims that some members are not open to change. She said the Aquino appointees even asked her if she prefers to make changes or do something differently during her term.

She said they are all open to whatever will benefit the viewing public.

"Wala akong kilala sa kanila personally. Pero sa halos dalawang linggo pa lang ako diyan, open naman po sila sa suggestions. Sa akin na lang, sana hindi na lang umabot sa ganun," Arenas said.

"Ayaw kong magkaroon ng parang divide with the old and the new board kasi isa lang naman po ang president natin at lahat tayo kailangang sumuporta sa kanya," she added.

Meanwhile, Arenas disclosed in the said radio interview that it was only through Uson's video blog where she knew of her concerns regarding the two shows: "Ipaglaban Mo" and "The Better Half".

Arenas said Uson's concerns were not raised during their meeting last Wednesday, February 15, because the latter failed to show up.

"Noong nakaraan pong board meeting, hindi na bring-up yan. Wala rin po si BM Uson noong panahon na yun. So, ngayon ko lang nabasa. Kaninang umaga, yung lumabas sa blog," she said.

Arenas also explained the SPG (Strong Parental Guidance) rating of the MTRCB.

She said it was implemented as early as 2011 and SPG was brought to the table to educate the viewers.

"Yung parameters kasi ng PG (Parental Guidance) may limitation yun. Beyond that, wina-warn na natin ang parents na huwag na natin ipanood o kailangan talagang nakatutok kayo sa mga anak ninyo.

Arenas also clarified that MTRCB's role is not to censor but to only classify and rate.

She also reiterated that there's a proper venue where to raise issues like this and the adjudication committee is always open to accommodate complaints.

"Kung meron mga issues na dapat pag-usapan, usually in the past, nagkakaroon tayo ng majority consensus."

As to Uson's statement that she will quit if the changes will not be made, Arenas only has this to say: "If she feels that she needs to quit, then she is free to do so. But as far as I know, she still said that she would be continually supporting the President in whatever capacity that she has."

Uson was appointed as one of the new MTRCB board members last January 9. (SunStar Philippines)
